Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) will provide training for drivers on how to use blind spot mirrors being installed on large vehicles, including buses and lorries, to help reduce accidents.

Blind spot mirrors will become mandatory from November 1. In preparation, the Transport Commissioner has directed that drivers of private buses, contract carriages and lorries receive training.

Local awareness camps will also be organised. Blind spots are areas not visible to drivers through standard rear-view mirrors. The new mirrors will be installed so that drivers can see these blind spots from their seats.

At present, only two rear-view mirrors are mandatory. However, large vehicles have blind spots, putting pedestrians and two-wheeler riders passing through those areas at risk.
