Thiruvananthapuram: While a controversy brews over her recent social media post praising CPM leader KK Ragesh, Director of Culture department, Divya S Iyer was spotted singing on stage at the State Film Awards ceremony. The musical evening, led by Stephen Devassy and his team, saw an unexpected performance by the IAS officer.
Divya, who was standing near actress Urvashi—present to collect her Best Actress award—was invited on stage by Stephen during the live performance. Before singing, Divya expressed her admiration for Urvashi, saying she was thrilled to see and be near the actress.
With the mic handed over, she sang a song on stage, joining the lively celebration. Urvashi followed by singing two songs from one of her films, adding charm to the moment. Translator Sylvie Maxi Mena also joined in, presenting the song’s lyrics in sign language for the audience.
This event came just days after Divya's Instagram post sparked political debate. She had shared a congratulatory note for KK Ragesh, former Rajya Sabha MP and the newly appointed Kannur CPM district secretary. In her post, she had drawn a comparison between Ragesh’s loyalty and skills to Karna’s armour from the Mahabharata. Divya also posted a picture of Ragesh with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, saying she had learned a lot from Ragesh during her time working with him.
Following backlash online, Divya released a video clarifying her position. She stood by her praise for Ragesh, especially for his respectful behaviour and administrative skills. She stressed that there was no political intent behind the post.
Currently, Divya serves as the Director of the Cultural Department and Managing Director of Vizhinjam Port.
