Kochi: The Kerala Police uncovered a fascinating case of robbery involving a staggering amount of stolen jewelry worth Rs 1 crore from the residence of director Joshiy. The police, tracing back to a series of robberies across major cities in India, apprehended Muhammad Irfan (35), a native of Bihar, notorious for orchestrating thefts targeting affluent households.
Following a meticulous investigation, the police, aided by Karnataka Police, captured Irfan in Udupi within hours of the robbery. However, details regarding the motive behind the theft remain undisclosed.
Irfan, commonly referred to as the "Robin Hood of Bihar," gained notoriety for his modus operandi of using stolen money to assist the underprivileged. Muhammad Irfan, who robbed director Joshiy's house, has the nickname of a good-natured thief. His mode of operation is similar to Kayamkulam Kochunni who helps the poor by stealing from the rich.
Further insights into the case are expected to be revealed during a press conference by DCP K.S. Sudarshan scheduled for Monday.
The modus operandi is to travel in expensive cars and carry out thefts. There were three people with Irfan when he was caught in a theft in Pune. He told the Pune police that he turned to theft after being attracted to Robinhood movies. He confessed to committing 40 robberies in twelve cities. According to Pune police, he owns multiple flats in big cities.
It is known that Muhammad Irfan reached Kochi by car only for theft. Since it was a car with the signboard of Zilla Parishad President of Sitamarhi in Bihar, he used it to reach Kerala without being checked at the check posts and returned after committing theft.
