Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala University of Digital Sciences, Innovation and Technology (Digital University of Kerala) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Manchester, Oxford, Edinburgh and Siegen universities for cooperation in the field of graphene research. The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Industrial Minister Rajeeve in the UK.
"We aim to promote institutions involved in the development of nanotechnology and future materials such as graphene. The government has initiated steps to set up industrial parks based on graphene," Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said.
Meanwhile, Andre Geim of Manchester University, who received the Nobel Prize in 2010 for discovering graphene, attended the events along with his fellow student and Malayali Professor Rahul Nair.
Professor Harish Bhaskaran (University of Oxford), Sethu Vijayakumar (University of Edinburgh), Bhaskar Choubey (University of Siegen), Digital University Vice Chancellor Dr Saji Gopinath, Professor Alex James also spoke during the event. Chief Secretary Dr VP Joy and Planning Board Vice Chairman Dr VK Ramachandran attended the event.
