Digital University Kerala launches the state’s first one-year Master’s degrees in AI, Cyber Security, and Environmental Sustainability for 2026.

Thiruvananthapuram: In a major shift for the higher education landscape in Kerala, the Digital University Kerala (DUK) has announced the launch of its first-ever one-year Master’s programmes. The courses have been designed in strict compliance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the UGC’s Postgraduate Curriculum Framework 2024, and the National Higher Education Qualifications Framework (NHEQF).
This new academic initiative is tailor-made for students who have successfully completed either a four-year undergraduate degree or a traditional two-year Master’s degree. It offers them an accelerated pathway to advanced research opportunities, higher education, and lucrative career placements in a shorter timeframe.
Key features
The programmes have been introduced with the vision of making higher education more flexible, multidisciplinary, and globally competitive. Currently, three specialised Master’s programmes are being offered under the School of Informatics and the School of Computer Science and Engineering.
The curriculum seamlessly integrates cutting-edge technologies, interdisciplinary learning, industry collaboration, and practical research training.
Programmes at a glance
1. MSc Environmental Sustainability
- Core subjects: ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Reporting, Circular Economy, Life Cycle Assessment, Sustainability Analytics, and Climate Resilience.
- Career prospects: Graduates can secure roles as Sustainability Officers, ESG Analysts, Climate Risk & Carbon Management Experts, and Policy Analysts within public and private sectors, as well as international organisations.
2. MSc cyber security
- Core subjects: Computer Networks, Cryptography, Ethical Hacking, AI for Cyber Security, and Malware Analysis.
- Practical training: The course prepares students for real-world security challenges through a minor project in the first semester, followed by a major project, research work, or an industry internship in the second semester.
3. MSc Advanced Artificial Intelligence
- Core subjects: Computational Data Analytics, Deep Learning & Generative AI, Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, and Reinforcement Learning.
- Special highlight: Features a substantial 20-credit major project, research thesis, or industry internship enabling students to engineer practical solutions for contemporary AI problems.
