Bengaluru: The investigation team is seeking further details in the suicide of Confident Group chairman C J Roy, with a key focus on whether he was facing financial difficulties. The probe will also examine possible personal issues. Investigators are likely to question family members again, and reports indicate inconsistencies in statements given by employees. There are even contradictions regarding the time Roy arrived at his office.

According to the statement of security personnel, Roy reached the office at around 2 pm. However, colleague T J Joseph stated that the time was 3 pm. Investigators are also examining claims that no gunshot sound was heard.

From Roy’s diary, the Special Investigation Team has received indications that he was dealing with certain personal problems. The diary reportedly contains an apology addressed to his family. It also mentions instructions such as repaying investors, retaining employees and decisions regarding who should take over the business. These entries suggest that the suicide may have been planned in advance. Investigators expect more clarity once Roy’s mobile phones are subjected to forensic examination.

Meanwhile, Roy’s brother, C J Babu, told the media that he is satisfied with the ongoing investigation and does not wish to comment further on the death at this stage. He added that Roy had not mentioned any form of pressure to friends or family members and said that the Confident Group would continue its operations.

Roy (57) died by allegedly shooting himself on Friday during an Income Tax Department inspection. His family had alleged that mental harassment by Income Tax officials led to the suicide. However, officials have stated that Roy was not questioned by Income Tax officers on the day of his death. They also informed the Karnataka Police that no raid was conducted at the office on Friday and that there were no confrontations with Roy. Officials further said that allegations made by Roy’s brother that an Additional Commissioner subjected him to mental harassment are baseless. Police have said that CCTV footage has provided crucial information in the case.
