The Travancore Devaswom Board has deferred a decision on Kandararu Rajeevaru's request to appoint his son as the next Sabarimala Tantri, referring the matter to the Kerala High Court.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) has decided not to take an immediate decision on a request by Kandararu Rajeevaru seeking the appointment of his son as the next Sabarimala Tantri.
Rajeevaru had written to the Board requesting that his son, Brahmadathan, be appointed as Sabarimala Tantri from the Malayalam month of Chingam (August–September). The request was discussed at a recent Board meeting, but members decided to leave the matter to the Kerala High Court.
At present, Kandararu Mahesh Mohanaru, son of former Tantri Kandararu Maheswararu, serves as the Sabarimala Tantri. Although Rajeevaru is next in the traditional line of succession, he has sought the appointment of his son instead.
The Board is reportedly unwilling to act on the request while criminal cases, including the Sabarimala gold theft case, remain pending against Rajeevaru.
During the meeting, Board members also expressed concern that acting on a request made by a person facing ongoing legal proceedings could lead to further legal complications.
To avoid controversy, the Board decided not to take a position on the appointment at this stage. Instead, it will place the matter before the Kerala High Court through the Special Commissioner. The Board believes the High Court should decide who will serve as the Sabarimala Tantri from the Chingam month.
