Ponnani: What if all the details regarding a patient reach the hospital before the ambulance carrying the patient arrives there? Yes, it’s possible now, thanks to the ‘Pre Arrival Intimation System’, which is launched on a trial basis at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College as part of the  KANIV-108 (Kerala Ambulance Network for Injured Victims) programme. Soon the programme will be extended to other medical colleges in the State as well.

The moment the ambulance starts with the patient, his or her details, including  name, age, how serious the situation is, place from where the patient is being brought, will be displayed on the screen set at the ICU of the hospital. 

With the cooperation of the Health Department, the project is being carried out by the EMRI Green Health Services which is in charge of KANIV-108 service as well. The system functions by making use of GPS installed in the ambulances and control rooms. 

When the ambulance starts from a point, the nurse in the ambulance will share the details in the mobile app which will be shown on the hospital screen thereby reducing any delay in preparations and treatment.

The trial run of the mobile app has also been started to extend the KANIV-108 service among the public.
