The India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed that while Severe Cyclonic Storm Murasu is positioned off the south Andhra Pradesh coast, its indirect system will trigger increased rainfall across Kerala over the coming days.
IMD scientist Neetha K Gopal noted that a cyclonic circulation off the Kerala coast and easterly wave troughs will bring light to moderate rain across most parts of Kerala, with isolated heavy rainfall in several districts. As the storm system moves closer, crosses the coast and dissipates, enhanced precipitation will continue over Kerala through the weekend without severe coastal hazards.

Meanwhile, in Prakasam district, rising tides and strong winds have already begun impacting the coastline. District Collector P Raja Babu announced that 26 vulnerable villages across seven coastal mandals were identified for immediate evacuation. High-risk groups, including children, elderly residents and pregnant women, nearing delivery dates, were relocated to safe shelters and nearby hospitals.

To safeguard the 74-kilometre coastal belt of Prakasam, three National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams were deployed alongside local revenue and police personnel. Round-the-clock command control rooms have been activated across mandal, divisional and district levels to monitor field feedback.
