Pathanamthitta: The CPM is unlikely to accept the request made by the husband of Minister Veena George that she should not be fielded in the upcoming election. As the party has already decided to nominate Veena from Aranmula, party sources suggest that it cannot backtrack from that decision. The CPM state secretariat is scheduled to meet on Wednesday, followed by the state committee meeting on Thursday.

Based on information from the Pathanamthitta District Secretariat, Thomas Isaac, who attended the meeting, reportedly informed the state secretariat about George Joseph’s request. The issue is likely to be considered on Wednesday. Reports point out that the party leadership is set to take the stance that George Joseph’s plea should not be accepted.

There is also an opinion within the leadership that if Veena George herself is unwilling to contest, she should convey it directly. Mathrubhumi had reported that George had asked CPM leaders not to field Veena. When asked about the report, George responded that he was not reacting to the news. The minister who was injured during the KSU protest in Kannur, is currently resting at her home in Kodumon, Pathanamthitta. However, on Tuesday she attended public functions but refrained from responding to the media.

Minister and PR Team

On Tuesday, the minister attended two government programs in Pathanamthitta, accompanied by the election campaign team. Since Monday, a five-member PR team has been active on the minister's social media accounts for the election campaign. The team recorded videos and took photographs of both events held in Pathanamthitta on Tuesday.

KSU keeps away

When the minister attended public functions on Tuesday, KSU, which called for a strong protest, was not present. The retreat of KSU stems from the assessment that intensifying protests against the minister could backfire. Moreover, no large police contingent was present with the minister.
