Palakkad, Kerala: CPM leader P K Sasi has been expelled from the party after attending a rebel convention in the district on Thursday, where he openly criticised the district leadership and accused senior party officials of corruption and misconduct.

Sasi, a former Shornur MLA and long‑time CITU district president, inaugurated the rebel convention and described it as a gathering of revolutionary communists, rejecting the label of rebels.

He directly attacked Palakkad district secretary E N Suresh Babu, referring to him as a “spirit merchant” and highlighting alleged mismanagement and nepotism within the district unit.

Addressing the attendees, Sasi said: “Many who took a stand against corruption have been expelled or suspended. This convention is a manifestation of their anger. The situation in Palakkad district forced us to act.”

The party has confirmed the expulsion, citing violation of party discipline and public criticism of official leadership.
