Thiruvananthapuram: In an open letter to the branch secretaries of CPI  published in party mouthpiece ‘Navayugam’ magazine, CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam has called for a detailed introspection regarding the humiliating defeat suffered in the Lok Sabha elections.

“LDF had suffered an unexpected defeat this election. The problem before us could not be resolved through interpretations bereft of realities and superficial analytical exercises. Don’t ever think that the existing situation could be overcome with stock phrases reserved for such occasions”, he said.

“The communist responsibility of reaching out to the people and learning from them should not be forgotten. People stand above everything. The left activists should interact with the people with humility and commitment. We have no right to become intolerant before the criticisms raised by the people”, Binoy Viswam said.

The setback received in this election should be studied in detail. The analysis should take place within the LDF as a front and within the parties of the ally. All the parties of the front should critically analyse the situation from the booth level itself. All the branches should take up this task on a war footing. The workers functioning at the grassroots level should check whether the party workers have any connections with the common people. They have to work hard to analyse how the trust they had enjoyed in the past was lost”, he said.

BJP, led by communal outfit RSS had secured 16.68% votes for the first time in the state. They have even won from a constituency. More worrying is the fact that they became first in 11 constituencies in the state. This should be studied seriously as the BJP had faced a backlash this election at the national level. We have to buckle ourselves up and get ready to give a fitting reply for the setback suffered in this election in the coming elections” the letter said.
