
Thiruvananthapuram: In the Covid-19 review meeting, headed by the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, decision has been taken to reinstate lockdown on Sunday. In view of the Independence Day and Onam celebrations, lockdown on Sundays was suspended for two weeks.
Chief minister has given strict direction to increase Covid-19 tests in districts where the rate of vaccination is low. Direction has also been given to fully vaccinate people in districts where 70 percent of the population received the first dose.
In districts like Eranakulam, Wayanad and Thiruvananthapuram rate of vaccination is high among other states. In these districts, testing can be confined to people having symptoms.
In Idukki, Palakkad and Wayanad break-through infection rate is very high. It has been decided to hold a genetic study in these districts. With timely procurement of syringes from various sources, shortage has been overcome and the state now has over 15-lakh syringes in stock.
The review meeting analysed the increasing number of Covid-19 cases. However, decision was taken not to impose more restrictions and to continue with the existing relaxations. Strict measures will be enforced to monitor whether Covid-19 protocols are followed properly or not. Increasing the pace of vaccination drive and strict imposition of Covid-19 protocols were recommended in the meeting.
