Puttur: In a swift operation conducted by the Puttur police, a couple identified as Saritha (26) and Muhammad Anwarsha (25) of Krishnapuram, Alappuzha,  were arrested in connection with a daring theft at the Punarurkulangara Maha Vishnu Temple in Mavadi. 

According to police reports, the duo, riding a motorcycle, executed their plan during the afternoon hours on February 26.

Pretending to be devout worshippers, Saritha and Anwarsha entered the temple premises. They then robbed three hundials within the temple.

The stolen parts of the hundials were later discovered in a nearby rubber plantation near Mylamkulam Temple when the police took the accused to the location for evidence collection. It is estimated that the couple stole around 3,000 rupees from the temple. 

Further investigations have revealed that they are history sheeters and have cases registered in several stations within the Alappuzha district.

Following information received by the Puttur police about their presence at a lodge in Kottiyam, a team comprising the Kollam city police squad and the Kottiyam police squad took them into custody.

Under the leadership of Puttur SI Balu B. Nair and ASI Santosh Kumar, evidence was collected, and further actions were taken against the suspects.
