Thrissur: Thefts at a temple and a nearby government veterinary hospital at Anthikkad in Thrissur have left the local residents disheartened. According to the Anthikkad Police, the thefts took place at Eravu Sri Mahavishnu Temple and the Government Veterinary Hospital. Cases have been registered concerning the loss of Rs 25,000 from the temple and around Rs 1,000 from the hospital. The police have obtained CCTV footage of the suspect from the temple.

The theft was discovered by a temple employee who noticed the broken door of the storeroom, where the 'vazhipadu counter' is located, when he arrived at the temple in the morning. The door of the almirah in the storeroom was also found broken. The lock of the 'vazhipadu counter' room also had been tampered with. Temple officials reported that approximately Rs 25,000, kept inside a drawer in a table, was stolen. However, the thief had failed to notice a bag containing around Rs 13,000 hanging on the wall nearby. The thief also broke the lock of the coffer located in front of the temple. Temple president Mohanan Poovvassery and secretary Madhusoodanan Kandenkavil have lodged a complaint with the Anthikkad police regarding the theft.

The police believe that the same thief might have entered the veterinary hospital after committing the theft at the temple. The suspect broke the front door to gain entry into the hospital and proceeded to break open an almirah, stealing keys inside to open other almirahs in the room. At the hospital, Rs. 1,000 kept inside a small box was stolen. In this incident, a complaint has been lodged by Dr Radhika Shyam and Arimbur Panchayat president Smitha Ajayakumar.
