New Delhi: TheUDF has announced its candidates for the byelections to be held in Kerala on November 13. Priyanka Gandhi will be the candidate for the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency, which is expected to attract the attention of the national media. In the assembly byelections, Youth Congress state president Rahul Mamkoottathil will contest from Palakkad, and Ramya Haridas will fight it out from Chelakkara.
This will be Priyanka Gandhi’s first battle in electoral politics. As for Palakkad, there has been a strong consensus around Rahul Mamkoottathil’s candidacy from the beginning, aided by the support of Leader of the Opposition VD Satheesan and Shafi Parambil.
The selection of Ramya Haridas as the candidate from Alathur was also anticipated. Although Ramya lost her bid in the Alathur Lok Sabha constituency during the last election, the state leadership felt she deserved another chance to prove herself.
The polling will be held on November 13 and the counting of votes will be held on November 23.
