Alappuzha: CPM launched a probe over the complaint lodged against a party leader who allegedly demanded commission from church authorities to avoid panchayat’s legal action. The complaint noted that the accused asked for Rs 1 lakh or three cents of land to settle a panchayat action issued against the land belonging to of church.

The accused is a DYFI state committee and CPM Cherthala area committee member.

The probe committee comprises CPM district secretariat member K Prasad and district committee member NR Baburaj. CPM district leadership assured severe action against the leader if he was found guilty of offence.

The panchayat had issued a stop memo over the construction of a new building on a plot in front of the church as a land dispute already existed between the church and panchayat. The accused approached the church authorities in the name of resolving the issues. The office bearers of the church turned against the party leader when the issues between both entities intensified.
