Thiruvananthapuram: Governor Arif Mohammed Khan has summoned Kerala’s Chief Secretary Sarada Muraleedharan and Director General of Police (DGP) Shaik Darvesh Saheb for clarification regarding controversial comments made by the Chief Minister about Malappuram. The governor has requested that both officials provide their explanations in person tomorrow evening. This action follows remarks published in ‘The Hindu’, which suggested that Malappuram is being used for gold smuggling, hawala transactions, and anti-national activities.

The Governor has instructed the officials to appear at Raj Bhavan tomorrow at 4 PM

In response to the controversy, the Chief Minister’s office clarified that the term ‘anti-national activities’ was not specifically attributed to Malappuram. ‘The Hindu’ stated that ‘quote’ was attributed to the Chief Minister as asked by the PR agency. However, the governor noted that the Chief Minister had previously made similar remarks during a press conference.

The governor has previously sought clarification from the Chief Minister on who qualifies as anti-nationals and why the nature of these activities has not been detailed. He also requested information on when the Chief Minister became aware of these issues and who is behind them. Additionally, the governor demanded a comprehensive report outlining any actions taken against anti-national elements.

Despite these requests, the lack of a satisfactory response has led the governor to call for direct appearances from both the Chief Secretary and the DGP.

Furthermore, the governor will also seek explanations from the DGP regarding actions taken in light of revelations about phone tapping by P.V. Anvar.
