Kozhikode: Things have turned sour following allegations and counter-allegations between Arjun’s family and lorry owner Manaf, resulting in a case being registered against Manaf. One of the most emotional rescue missions in recent history has now turned into a sad tale of pride hurt and bruised egos.

On Thursday, lorry owner Manaf held a press meet with his family to address the allegations made by Arjun’s family. During this press meet, he urged people to put an end to the controversy to prevent further disturbance to Arjun’s family.

However, on Friday morning, the Chevayur Police registered a case against Manaf based on a complaint lodged by Arjun’s sister Anju. In her complaint, she stated that their family has been attacked on social media following comments made by Manaf. The complaint also accuses Manaf of attempting to incite communal hatred. Anju lodged the complaint with the Kozhikode city police commissioner, leading to the Chevayur Police being directed to register a case.

The police have charged Manaf under Section BNS 192 and Section 120 (O) of the Kerala Police Act. The FIR states that Manaf had disseminated details about Arjun’s family on social media and had shared information regarding the search operations. It also alleges that he exploited the emotional and mental vulnerability of Arjun’s family through YouTube videos during the search.

Only a few days ago, Arjun’s funeral was held at his home at Kannadikkal, Kozhikode. His mortal remains were retrieved from the depths of the Gangavali River on September 25 after a 71-day wait, following his and his lorry’s disappearance in a landslide that occurred at Shirur on July 16. Initially, Manaf’s dedication and love for his lorry driver were praised by the media and the public alike as he continued to wait for Arjun.

On Wednesday, however, members of Arjun’s family spoke out against Manaf, alleging that he had been attempting to exploit the situation by profiting from their emotions and helplessness through his YouTube channel.
