
Thrissur: Two boys drowned in two separate incidents in Thrissur. The mishaps occurred at Blangad beach in Chavakkad and Thamban Kadavu in Vadanappally. Five students went missing in Chavakkad. Among them, two were rescued while the body of another was recovered later. The search operation is on to find the two missing youngsters.
The deceased is identified as Vishnu (19), son of Chavakkad native Babu. Searching is on to find Jishnu (23) and Jagannathan (19). Kannan (20) and Sarin (20) were rescued and hospitalised. All of them are neighbours and friends.
The boys were playing football on the beach and the ball happened to fall in the sea. Jagannathan was washed away while trying to retrieve the ball from the sea. Others fell into the sea during an attempt to save Jagannathan. The fishermen in the area saw Kannan trying to swim to the shore and saved him and Sarin. Vishnu's body was recovered during a search operation by fisherfolk, coast guard and police.
The coast guard is searching with a helicopter while the coastal police and fisherfolk are searching in 50 boats. MLA Abdul Khader, Chavakkad municipality chairman N K Akbar, Kadappuram panchayat president P V Ummar Kunji, Tehsildar CM Rajesh and others are present at the spot.
In the mishap at Vadanappally, a student who tried bathe in the sea drowned at Thamban Kadavu. The deceased was identified as Abdul Basith (17), son of Vadanappally native Mujeeb and Sabeena. He is a Plus Two student at Vadanappally Government Higher Secondary School.
The boy went to take bath in the sea along with his friends around 7 in the morning. Though the fishermen rescued him from the sea, his life could not be saved. The body is kept at Engandiyoor MI Mission Hospital.
