Pilathara: A tanker lorry carrying LPG overturned near the Chakliya colony stop at Ezhilode in Kannur. A huge mishap was averted since no gas leakage was reported.

The incident happened on Tuesday at around 8 pm when the tanker lorry gave way to another vehicle approaching from the opposite direction. The highway road had space for only two vehicles as construction works were proceeding there. The tanker lorry skidded and overturned into a pit which was dug for doubling the national highway. Diesel started to leak from the tanker lorry soon after the fall. A Fire Force team from Payyannur and Pariyaram police arrived at the spot to ensure safety.

The bullet gas tanker carrying Indane LPG was heading from Mangaluru to Kozhikode. The Fire Force officials informed that the driver was in an inebriated state during the mishap.

Traffic through this route has been disrupted. The vehicles from Pazhayangadi have to take the route via Palakkode-Muttom-Ramanthali, said police.
