The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Election Commission on Kerala’s petition seeking urgent intervention on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), with the next hearing scheduled for November 26.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has decided to urgently consider the plea seeking a stay on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) taking place in Kerala. Notice has been issued to the Election Commission of India in connection with petitions filed by four parties, including the state government. The Supreme Court has scheduled a detailed hearing of the pleas on November 26.
Petitions opposing the SIR from Uttar Pradesh, Puducherry and other regions were also highlighted before the court on Friday. However, the Supreme Court clarified that only the petitions from Kerala will be heard on November 26, while petitions from other states can be taken up in December, as stated by the bench comprising Justices Surya Kant, S V Bhatti and Joymal Bagchi.
Lawyers argued that local body election proceedings are already underway in Kerala, necessitating the court’s immediate intervention. The Supreme Court noted the urgent nature of the petitions from Kerala, which is why the arguments will be heard without delay.
The petitions considered today included those filed by the Kerala state government, KPCC president Sunny Joseph, CPM state secretary M V Govindan and Muslim League national general secretary P K Kunhalikutty. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal and standing counsel C K Sasi appeared for the state government. Former solicitor general Ranjith Kumar and advocate G Prakash represented M V Govindan, while advocate Haris Beeran appeared for the Muslim League.
