Rahul Mamkootathil steps down as Youth Congress president following allegations, despite initially denying resignation reports.

Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil has officially tendered his resignation as Youth Congress state president, shortly after publicly denying speculation about stepping down.
Earlier, Rahul firmly denied reports of his resignation, stating that he had not been asked to resign by anyone in the party, including the All India Congress Committee (AICC). He also maintained that he had not committed any wrongdoing and had no reason to quit.
“No one from AICC or the party leadership asked me to resign,” Rahul said when questioned by reporters.
However, just minutes later, Rahul officially announced that he had tendered his resignation to the party leadership, citing concern for the party’s image amid the ongoing controversy and internal pressure.
“I officially resigned at 1:30 PM. Though I have nothing to hide, I did it for the sake of the party, so it doesn’t face any further issues because of the allegations,” he stated.
The resignation comes as calls within the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) grew louder, with demands that he step aside from the Youth Congress leadership in light of serious allegations against him.
What are the allegations against Rahul?
The resignation follows serious allegations made by actress Rini Ann George, who claimed that a Youth Congress leader had sent her inappropriate messages and attempted to invite her to a five-star hotel. Although she did not name anyone directly, discussions within party circles and social media quickly pointed toward Rahul Mamkootathil.
Adding to the pressure, a non-resident writer also came forward with allegations against Rahul, which intensified internal calls for his resignation. Sources within the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) had earlier hinted that the party might ask Rahul to step aside pending an investigation. Rahulhas since resigned as Youth Congress state president, just hours after denying speculation about stepping down.
