Panakkad (Malappuram): During discussions about UDF entry, MLA PV Anvar visited Panakkad and held a meeting with Muslim League state president Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal. Both clarified to the media that the meeting was not political. Anvar said that they discussed the issues faced by the people in the hilly regions and expressed their support for attempts to resolve the problems. Meanwhile, Sadiq Ali Thangal noted that any political decisions regarding Anvar would be made by the UDF.

Anvar clarified that his visit to Panakkad was not to discuss joining the UDF but to address the hardships faced by the people of the hilly regions. He sought support from the UDF, a key constituent party, to oppose the forest amendment bill. The primary goal, according to Anvar, is to bring down the Pinarayi government. He mentioned plans to meet the Leader of the Opposition, other UDF leaders, and allies next to discuss the same matters. He added that discussions and decisions regarding his political entry would be handled by the UDF.

Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal said that the UDF does not oppose the issues raised by Anvar and believes the government would reconsider the new forest law amendments. He also emphasised that it is up to the UDF to respond and decide on Anvar's entry into the party. Thangal reiterated that the UDF is committed to doing everything necessary to return to power in Kerala and that decisions aligned with this goal will be made.

Thangal remarked that the forest law amendments are somewhat complex and need a humane approach. The complexities involved should be resolved. The challenges faced by people in forest regions cannot be ignored. He expressed confidence that the people of Kerala desire the UDF to return to power in the next Assembly elections and that the UDF will do whatever is required to achieve that. Having been out of power for 10 years, the UDF cannot afford to stay out any longer. Political strategies essential for reclaiming power will be part of the UDF’s decisions, he concluded.
