Thiruvananthapuram: The BJP in Kerala has launched a major internal overhaul at its state headquarters, Mararji Bhavan (K.G. Marar Bhavan), following the alleged leakage of key party documents and information.

Two employees suspected of involvement in the leaks have been removed, while three others are likely to face action.

The move follows an incident in which a surveillance camera inside a room was switched off while an inquiry committee headed by former state BJP president Kummanam Rajasekharan and Jacob Thomas was recording statements as part of an investigation into allegations against the party.

Information that the camera had been switched off was circulated on social media within minutes. A subsequent inquiry reportedly found the involvement of office employees.

The BJP had stepped up surveillance after details related to accounts linked to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Kerala visit reportedly reached a CPM newspaper and were published as news. The leakage of party documents has also been brought within the scope of the inquiry being conducted by the disciplinary committee headed by Kummanam.

When Rajeev Chandrasekhar became the state BJP president, employees who had been working at the headquarters earlier were not replaced. The party leadership now suspects that some of them may also have been involved in the leakage of documents related to the controversy over BJP funds.

The BJP leadership reiterated recently that there had been no financial irregularities involving election funds and dismissed media reports alleging such wrongdoing as baseless.

The disciplinary committee has also been expanded to include former state BJP president PK Krishnadas. He was not present at the evidence-gathering session held at the party headquarters on the previous day.

Those facing allegations, including a state secretary, appeared before the committee and gave their statements. Meanwhile, disciplinary action is continuing in various districts over alleged lapses in election-related activities.
