Kollam: The BJP is poised to analyze the voting patterns in CPM strongholds and 'martyr' villages in Kerala. The decision comes in light of reports indicating increased support for the saffron party in traditional CPM bastions in Kannur, Kasaragod, Kozhikode, and Alappuzha districts.
Senior BJP leader P K Krishnadas is in charge. A report should be given to the state committee and the national leadership after conducting the study.
In all the places famous for Left revolts like Parapram, Pinarayi, Kayyur, Karivallur, Kavumbai, Thillankeri, Ravaneshwaram, Madikkai, Onchiyam and Punnapra, the BJP has seen an increase in votes compared to the previous elections.
The BJP has taken this as proof of the change in the 'anti-BJP mind' of the workers. A senior BJP leader said that the reason for this was the BJP-CPM conflicts have lessened of late.
The move of the BJP's central leadership is to change its political policy in Kerala in the wake of the flow of votes from the Left parties to it. There will be a change from the general assessment that when the Congress is weak, the BJP can grow, to the position that the BJP can gain by taking advantage of the weakness of the Left parties.
The BJP had come ahead of the LDF in 12 panchayats, including Punnapra North of Alappuzha district. These panchayats are the samples taken for the study.
A comparative study of the votes, obtained in the order of booth, panchayat and Assembly constituency, will be conducted in the CPM centres and its ‘martyr’ villages. The votes received by the BJP in the booths of CPM leaders, including the Chief Minister, will also be studied. In some of these booths, the LDF has lost as many votes as the BJP has gained this time.
The BJP is assessing that the CPM votes have fallen in their box in these booths. This time, the BJP got votes in the booths where there was not even a single party member. The central leadership has directed to trace those who have voted for the BJP and to give them membership.
