Kollam: The BJP State leadership is recovering the unspent election funds from the party’s lower units.
Out of the total funds given to the party’s election committees in each Lok Sabha constituency through the State unit, the unused amount is being collected. Also, a special group of auditors to all the 20 constituencies will be sent to check the accounts.
All the election committees were directed to send back the unused money and prepare an account of money spent by them. Money was allotted in phases in booth, area, panchayat and constituency levels for the election campaigning for posters, mikes and other publicity means. The BJP central leadership had allocated money classifying constituencies as classes on the basis of the number of votes secured in the last general elections.
There were complaints that some of the lower units have not received any money. Allegations were also raised regarding the delay in releasing many campaign materials like Vishu greeting cards even in A-class constituencies, besides the ones raised regarding spending money for purposes other than elections. Another complaint was over the absence of wall writings in many constituencies. In this context, the leadership has sought the balance amount from the election committees.
