Malappuram: BJP state president K Surendran has stated that his party will support the alternative proposal for the SilverLine semi-high speed rail corridor tabled by noted engineer and party member E Sreedharan.

Sreedharan has proposed high speed rail with completely underground or elevated tracks.

Addressing the media after visiting Sreedharan at his residence, Surendran said, "The state's development is of the utmost significance. This marks a fresh beginning for the state's railway development and will guarantee high-speed train services. To make this happen, the state government and the railway authorities have to work together efficiently," he said.

Instead of moving on with a project that would only result in revenue losses for the state, the government should work to implement the high-speed railway system proposed by Sreedharan, Surendran added.

BJP had protested against the semi-high-speed railway project in Kerala. The party leaders even met the union ministers to press the government against giving approval for the SilverLine project.
