Kottayam: After a long hiatus, the Central Government's 'Bharat Rice' has once again reached the Kerala market. In addition to this, huge quantities of wheat are also made available to large flour companies.
The rice, with its price largely reduced, was being supplied to Thrissur, Palakkad and Aluva initially.
Sold at Rs 29 per kg earlier this year, the rice is now being sold at Rs 22. It is sold in 5 kg and 10 kg packs as before. As there is currently no restriction, you can buy as many bags of rice as you want. The sale is conducted through the cooperative institution NCCF (National Cooperative Consumer’s Federation).
Companies need to book wheat in advance
In the initial phase, wheat was not available for sale in Kerala. This time, the companies have the opportunity to buy wheat by giving a quotation. To participate in the tender, one needs to register on the online platform 'Value Junction'. Companies can register on the site every Friday till 2 pm and participate in the tender.
The Food Corporation of India will take the final decision on the quantity of wheat to be sold. However, a company has the opportunity to purchase wheat from a minimum of one tonne to 10 tonnes. There will be a slight difference in the price of wheat in different districts of the state. The price difference in different districts varies from Rs 25.76 to Rs 26.80.
