Internal strife in Kerala Youth Congress intensifies after president`s resignation. Leaders vying for top post

Thiruvananthapuram: Following Rahul Mamkootathil’s resignation from the post of Youth Congress president, tensions have escalated within the organisation. Leaders have entered the scene and are using pressure tactics to secure the top post. Youth Congress vice president Abin Varkey and around 40 office bearers have taken the stand that they will resign if an outsider is brought to replace the vacant post.
Supporters of Abin Varkey argue that he should be considered for the Youth Congress president post. They point out that if a president resigns or is removed, the responsibility is usually handed over to the vice president, making Abin Varkey the right choice to fill the vacancy left by Rahul Mamkootathil.
However, there are reports that other names are also being considered for the top position. Abin Varkey has warned that he will take a strong stance if such decisions are considered. It is also learned that these concerns have been communicated to the All India Youth Congress leadership.
Recently, Abin Varkey faced widespread criticism in a WhatsApp group of Youth Congress leaders. Allegations were raised that he was behind the controversies surrounding Rahul Mamkootathil and that his moves were aimed at securing the top post.
The names of Binu Chulliyil and KM Abhijith are also under consideration. Abhijith was among the names the ‘A’ group had considered for the state Youth Congress president post alongside Rahul Mamkootathil. His exclusion from the recent Youth Congress national reorganisation had sparked widespread protests. Binu Chulliyil, who served as general secretary in the national reorganisation, is believed by his supporters to have an edge in the race for the post due to his close ties with KC Venugopal.
