Thiruvananthapuram: In what appears to be a delicate balancing act, the Kerala government is reportedly preparing to host a state-level minority congregation on the close heels of the global Ayyappa devotee conclave.

It is learnt that the event will be organised by the leadership of the State Minorities Department, with Kozhikode or Kochi likely to serve as the venue.

Timing sparks debate

The global Ayyappa conclave is scheduled for September 20, organised by the Devaswom Board. Critics have raised eyebrows over the timing of the conclave, suggesting it reflects the state government’s majority-appeasement politics. Reports of a pro-minority development plan have emerged at this juncture, and many see this as a balancing act.

Platform for community issues

The forthcoming congregation is being framed as a platform to discuss issues affecting Christian and Muslim communities. Government-level discussions on the event are reportedly ongoing, signalling an effort to appear inclusive while managing public perception.
