Abu Dhabi: The forensic report has confirmed that the death of Athulya, a native of Kollam, was a case of suicide. She was found dead in her flat in the Rolla area of Sharjah. The report concluded that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death, and the injury marks on her body were determined to be old. Her family expects the body to be repatriated by tomorrow night.

The forensic report was released ten days after Athulya’s death. Her sister, Akhila, had lodged a complaint with Sharjah Police, suspecting murder and alleging the involvement of Athulya’s husband, Satheesh.

Police thoroughly investigated the claims made in the complaint, examining CCTV footage and phone records. Official sources indicated that this detailed investigation was the reason for the delay in the release of the forensic report. With suicide now confirmed, procedures for the repatriation of the body have begun.

The report was issued on Monday evening, which meant that certain formalities--such as passport cancellation--could not be completed the same day. These are expected to be finalised by Tuesday noon, with embalming likely to be completed by the evening. If all goes to plan, the body will be flown home tomorrow night.

Athulya’s sister, Akhila, will accompany the body back to their hometown. Satheesh has handed over Athulya’s passport and Emirates ID to the police. The family has announced that a second post-mortem will be conducted once the body reaches Kerala, likely on Wednesday.

Athulya was found dead in her flat in the early hours of 19 July. According to Satheesh, the couple had an argument the previous night, after which he left the apartment. He claimed that upon returning in the early morning, he found her hanging from a ceiling fan.
