Thiruvananthapuram: Political pressure is mounting on the Kerala government and Chief Minister regarding the removal of ADGP MR Ajith Kumar, as both allies and leaders within the ruling CPM have demanded the ouster of the official.

Allies, including the CPI, have already called for stringent measures from the government concerning ADGP’s meeting with RSS leaders, arguing that protecting a government official who meets RSS leaders contradicts the policy of the LDF. A press conference called by the CM on Saturday morning is drawing attention in light of the growing demand for the ADGP’s dismissal.

Attempt to appease allies

It is said that a step will be taken to appease allies and maintain control. Sources within the LDF indicate that the ADGP is likely to be transferred to a less important position. The CPM is aware of the urgency of the situation, as various meetings related to the CPM state conference are already ongoing, where this issue is being widely discussed, leaving many leaders embarrassed.

The government is also keen to resolve the controversy ahead of the assembly session scheduled to start on October 4. The opposition is likely to launch a vigorous attack against the ADGP and the CM’s political secretary, P. Sasi. The government will find it challenging to counter the opposition, especially given the dissent within its own ranks. Therefore, it is expected that Ajith Kumar will be removed from his position as ADGP.

The CM has provided protection for the ADGP based on the argument that one should not act hastily without verifying the allegations against an official. However, allies do not accept the CM’s stance that disciplinary action against the ADGP will be taken only after the allegations are proven true. They assert that this is a political issue stemming from the ADGP’s meeting with RSS leaders.

Meanwhile, the suggestion from the Supreme Court that police officials should not be removed from their posts before two years is being circulated unofficially by some vested interests. However, CPI leader K. Prakash Babu stated that this law does not apply to the ADGP. Furthermore, MLA P.V. Anvar has reinforced his position by lodging a complaint with the CPM state secretary regarding the controversy. However, the DGP believes that Ajith Kumar should be removed from his post.

Given the prevailing circumstances, it is expected that the CM will ultimately be forced to make a decision to remove him from his position.
