Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan made it clear that he stands firm on the controversy over the appointment of university vice chancellor.

The governor told media in Delhi that he doesn’t want to get into a fight with the state government and the best solution for the issue is to appoint Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan as the Chancellor. He added that he would not introspect his statement until he is assured that there will be no political intervention in future.

“The government can appoint anyone of their choice as vice chancellor. But they should not do the same while I’m holding office of Chancellor. I said that I’m willing to quit the Chancellor post to avoid a clash with the government,” he said.

“The government can issue an ordinance removing the Chancellor post and I’m ready to endorse it. I’m not interested in futile conversations. But they have to end political interventions,” the Governor said.

The vice chancellor of Kalamandalam deemed university who was appointed by the government has moved the court against me. I will not do anything that would affect the sovereignty of universities, he added.
