Kozhikode: P. Chandrasekaran (94), who was the first reporter for the Akashvani News Division in Kerala and a former member of the Mathrubhumi Editorial team, has passed away. Chandrasekaran resided near the Durga Devi Temple in Panniyankara, Kozhikode.

Chandrasekaran, who retired as a news editor from Akashvani, had an illustrious career in journalism. He served as the secretary of the Malabar Working Journalists Association.

In 1953, he began his career as a sub-editor with Mathrubhumi before joining the Central Information Service in 1957. He became a reporter for Akashvani in Kozhikode, where he worked extensively until 1978. Following this, he moved to Delhi, where he continued his role as a news editor until his retirement in 1990.

Throughout his life, Chandrasekaran was also active in various organisations. He served as the Vice Chairman of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kozhikode, and was the President of Tapasya Kala Sahithya Vedi, Kozhikode. He also held the position of President of the Pensioners Association in Kozhikode District and was a senior member of the Kozhikode Aksharasloka Kala Samithi. Notably, he translated Srimad Bhagavatam and Devi Bhagavatam into Malayalam.
