Affan has confessed to the brutal murder of his paternal grandmother Salma Beevi in the Venjaramoodu mass murder case. During questioning at the Pangodu police station, Affan reiterated his claim that a huge family debt and a longstanding grudge against his grandmother led to the crime.

Affan explained that he had repeatedly asked his grandmother for financial help, including requesting her gold necklace, but was refused. He admitted to killing her when she denied his request.

While some reports have linked the increasing influence of violent films on youth to incidents like this, officials say Affan has denied such claims. He stated that although he watched many movies, they did not inspire his actions.

Meanwhile, Affan's mother Shemi, who is undergoing treatment at a private medical college in Venjaramoodu, was informed of her younger son Afsan’s death. Shemi, who sustained severe injuries and is receiving treatment for head wounds has denied that Affan was responsible for her injuries. Shemi insists that her injuries were caused by a fall from her bed, not an attack by her son.

She was informed of Afsan's death in the presence of her husband.
