Thiruvananthapuram: A 23-year-old man, identified as Affan, is believed to have killed five persons, including his kin, in Venjaramoodu after facing strong opposition from his family over his relationship with the young woman who was also among the victims. The horrific incident, which has left the local community in shock, took place on Monday, with all the victims suffering fatal head injuries.

According to locals, the mother of the accused remains in critical condition after sustaining injuries, while several of Affan’s relatives are reportedly receiving treatment at Gokulam Medical College, unaware of the gruesome crime that has unfolded within their family.

The young woman, who was pursuing post-graduate studies, was reportedly not attacked at her home. She had left her house under the pretext of attending tuition, but it is believed that she later met Affan, despite his family's disapproval of their relationship. This opposition from his family is now believed to have been a reason behind the killings.

In a disturbing twist, a friend of Affan spoke to Mathrubhumi News, revealing that the accused had previously consumed rat poison over a decade ago. However, no other concerning behaviours have been reported since. He even revealed that Affan loved his brother very much who was also murdered by him.
