Alappuzha: The ration distribution in Kerala came to a halt due to technical glitches in the Electronic Point of Sale (EPoS) server coupled with the last day rush to link Aadhaar and PAN cards on Friday. Although the server glitches were resolved before noon, distribution was delayed and consequently several cardholders went back without receiving the ration.
As June 30 was the last date for Aadhaar-PAN linking, there was heavy rush at the Akshaya centres across the state the other day. Ration distribution is also carried out via the Aadhaar server leading to the disruption. It is learnt that the inability of the server to handle heavy rush altogether led to the disruption.
In addition, several other services including mustering are done through Aadhaar server.
Furthermore, Friday saw a huge rush at ration shops as it was the last day for ration distribution for the month of June. Usually, EPoS server glitches occur towards every month-end due to the rush.
However, the date of distribution of ration will be extended to July only if the number of people who bought ration is less than that of the previous month.
