Kozhikode: In the first phase of the K-FON project in the district, approximately 2,700 connections have been established, reaching 53 per cent of the target. Officials from the Kerala State Information Technology Infrastructure Limited (KSITIL) report that 90 per cent of the work in government offices and schools has already been accomplished. Currently, 1,681 offices, 691 schools, and over 300 households are online.

The first phase aims to connect a total of 2,614 offices, 1,171 schools, and 1,300 houses, with a particular focus on government offices and schools.

The civil station is fully equipped with K-FON. The speed is 500 mbps.

However, the speed of the connection remains a challenge in certain areas. Locations near railway lines and the national highway have not been linked yet due to complications with obtaining permission from the railways to lay underground cables. Similar concerns exist for under-construction sections of the National Highway, where cables could be damaged during construction.

Schools under the KITE initiative benefit from a high-speed 100 Mbps connection. All other connections offer speeds between 10 Mbps to 20 Mbps. Organisations with more urgent connectivity needs can apply for higher speeds through KSITIL via email. Households seeking connectivity can apply using the My K-FON app available on Playstore.

The K-FON project has established 26 Points of Presence (PoP) across the district. Work to connect these PoPs with the main centre is progressing. In case one PoP experiences downtime, connectivity within that area will not be disrupted, ensuring continued internet operation via the main hub.
