Thiruvananthapuram: K-FON (Kerala Fiber Optic Network) has successfully established an extensive network infrastructure to provide about 40 lakh internet connections. The government estimates that 75 lakh households in Kerala can potentially benefit from a K-FON connection. Officials have expressed satisfaction with the bandwidth and performance of the internet in areas where the K-FON connection has been established.
The state government's ambitious objective is to provide K-FON connectivity to a total of 30,000 government institutions throughout Kerala. Presently, around 17,500 connections have been successfully installed. A facility encompassing approximately 18,000 connections has been completed.
The government has decided to offer 14,000 free internet connections across the state in the initial phase of implementation. This initiative will involve distributing 100 connections per assembly constituency.
A total of 9000 houses are already equipped with this service, and around 2200 households have been connected. Within the next two months, K-FON connection will be made available on a commercial basis to other households.
