Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has approved the first-phase alignment of the Thiruvananthapuram Metro Rail project, marking a key milestone in the capital city’s mass transit development. The approved route will connect major city hubs, including the Technopark’s three phases, the airport, Thampanoor bus stand, railway station, Secretariat, and the Medical College, and is set to be implemented by Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL).
The metro corridor, spanning 31 kilometres, will begin at Pappanamcode and traverse Killipalam, Palayam, Sreekaryam, Kazhakkoottam, Technopark, Kochuveli, and the airport, before terminating at Eanchakkal. The line will include 27 stations, with key interchange hubs at Kazhakkoottam, Technopark, and Karyavattom.
The approved alignment connects vital city hubs, including Technopark’s three phases, the airport, Thampanoor bus stand, railway station, Secretariat, and the Medical College, ensuring efficient connectivity across the capital.
As part of the metro’s preparatory work, KMRL has been tasked with constructing flyovers at Sreekaryam, Ulloor, and Pattom, with the Sreekaryam flyover advancing rapidly, highlighting Thiruvananthapuram’s accelerating urban growth.
Officials note that the metro project is expected to drive the city’s future development and enhance urban mobility, playing a key role in transforming Thiruvananthapuram into a modern, well-connected city.(With inputs from Agencies)
