Thiruvananthapuram: Twenty-three houses partially collapsed in six taluks of Thiruvananthapuram district due to continuous heavy rain for days. Eleven houses in Nedumangad taluk have been damaged due to continuous rain since September 29. Four houses each in Chirayinkeezhu, Varkala, and Kattakada taluks were also partially damaged.

A relief camp has been opened at Mamam Anganwadi in Chirayinkeezhu taluk, where two men and one woman are staying. The district administration is still searching for Soman (58), a resident of Vithura who went missing in the Vamanapuram river near Ponnamchund bridge, Vithura, on October 1.

District collector Geromic George has instructed the departments, including revenue, to take immediate measures to deal with the rain disaster.

As per preliminary assessments, heavy rains since September 25 caused damage to crops worth Rs. 43.57 lakh in the district. Various agricultural crops of 133 farmers in 6.89 hectare were destroyed. Neyyattinkara block has suffered the most crop damage, with Rs 21 lakh-worth of crops destroyed in 1.40 hectare. According to the Department of Agriculture, there was a loss of Rs. 6 lakh in Aryancode, Rs. 62,000 in Kattakada, Rs. 10 lakh in Parassala, Rs. 2.4 lakh in Pulimath, and Rs. 3.55 lakh in Vamanapuram.
