Alappuzha: At the CPI state conference representative meeting on Wednesday, discussions on forming the new State Committee have kicked off. The committee currently comprises 110 members, including 95 permanent members and 15 candidate members. According to the party constitution, 19 new members are expected to be inducted.

Members above 75 years of age and a few others will be excluded, and the committee will maintain 17 women members. While the constitution mandates 15% female representation, two additional women are already included, so the proportion of women is likely to remain the same.

With district secretaries reaching the 65-year age limit, the party aims to revitalise leadership and create more opportunities for youth within the committee. Binoy Viswam will continue as secretary. The party also plans to induct fresh faces in line with the rule that 20% of the State Committee should be new members.

The process will include additions, adjustments and replacements, with an effort to include all districts. The official faction will lead the changes, ensuring capable leaders are included while avoiding those who may cause internal conflicts.

Following the conference, the executive committee elections will be held. Assistant Secretary E Chandrashekaran will step down due to age limits, and a replacement will be identified during the meeting. P P Sunir will continue as assistant secretary and R Rajendran from Kollam is expected to move to the forefront.
