Thiruvananthapuram: Transport Minister Antony Raju reiterated that the violations identified by AI-enabled cameras installed in the state will invite fines from June 5 itself. He refuted the allegations raised by the Opposition and elaborated on the functionality of the camera.
“The technical committee reviewing the efficiency of the camera will submit the report concerned soon. No lapses in the AI system have been identified,” he noted.
The minister said that Keltron has the responsibility of camera maintenance and they will replace the defective ones in a time-bound manner.
He also hinted that the government may slap fine on vehicle owners who damage camera posts by reckless driving.
According to Motor Vehicle Department, ensuring the safety of cameras is under consideration and there is a plan to install CCTV cameras to surveil AI cameras. However, an official concerned maintained that the matter has not yet been finalised.
The Opposition planned protest against AI-cameras.
