Gopalganj, Bihar: The world’s largest Shivling, carved from a single piece of granite, has reached Gopalganj on its way to the Virat Ramayan Temple in Motihari, drawing huge crowds of devotees.

Standing 33 feet tall and weighing 210 tonnes, the massive Shivling was created in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu, by skilled artisans over nearly a decade.

Local resident Satyam Goswami said, “We are fortunate that such a large Shiv Ling, the world's largest Shiv Ling, comes here. It is 33 feet tall and has a large circumference. It's being taken from Tamil Nadu to the Ramayana temple being built in Kesariya, where it will be installed... Since morning, all the devotees have been coming in large numbers. Everyone is performing puja (worship) here.”

Another devotee, Kundan Devi, added, “It's a very big Shiv Ling. We came from very far away. There was a lot of excitement in the village, so we came to see it and to worship. We came here to worship. The world's largest Shiv Ling is here... We are very happy... People have been coming here since morning for worship.”

The Shivling, carved from granite in the Pattikadu area near Mahabalipuram, took years of careful work to shape, ensuring perfect balance and detail. The estimated cost of the project is reported to be Rs 3 crore.

Once installed, the Shivling will be the main attraction at the upcoming Virat Ramayan Temple in East Champaran, promising to become a major pilgrimage site in Bihar.
