Dhankhar’s resignation came without prior indication, leading to widespread speculation in political circles.

New Delhi: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, raising concerns over the sudden disappearance of former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, who resigned unexpectedly on 21 July, the opening day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament.
Dhankhar’s resignation came without prior indication, leading to widespread speculation in political circles. Since then, there has been no official statement regarding his location or wellbeing.
In a letter dated 10 August, Raut questioned the government’s silence and urged Shah to clarify Dhankhar’s current status. "There has been no information about the whereabouts of our (former) vice president. What is his current location? How is his health? There is no clarity on these matters. Some members of the Rajya Sabha attempted to contact him but were unsuccessful,"
Raut stated in the letter, which was shared on X on Monday.
Rumours of confinement circulate in Delhi
Raut also pointed out the growing speculation in Delhi about Dhankhar’s safety, suggesting that the former vice president may have been isolated at his residence. "There has been no communication with him or his staff, which is a matter of grave concern,"
he added. "What exactly has happened to our (former) vice president? Where is he? How is his health? Is he safe? The nation deserves to know the truth about these questions."
Raut, a Rajya Sabha MP, revealed that some of his parliamentary colleagues are contemplating filing a Habeas Corpus writ petition in the Supreme Court to ascertain Dhankhar's wellbeing.
"Before knocking on the doors of the Supreme Court, I thought it to be prudent to seek this information from you. I hope you will understand my sentiments and provide genuine information regarding Shri. Dhankhar's current whereabouts and his safety and health," the letter reads.
Uddhav Thackeray also raises concern
Last week, Shiv Sena-UBT chief Uddhav Thackeray echoed similar concerns at a press conference, urging the public and media to focus on Dhankhar’s sudden disappearance. "Where is the former vice president now? This is the issue that should be discussed," Thackeray said.
