Kolkata: West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose faced denial of access to the Salt Lake Stadium following disorder and crowd unrest that disrupted an event starring football icon Lionel Messi.

Bose labelled the Saturday evening entry refusal as an insult to the governor's constitutional office and demanded explanations from officials.

"I never write a report without seeing the spot... My report is half-ready. I want to see for myself what happened in Ground Zero," he informed reporters outside the venue.

"Is this the way West Bengal treats its governor? The governor is not a rubber stamp," Bose declared, calling the incident a "ghastly irrelevance of a constitutional authority".

The governor announced plans to return to the stadium on Sunday for a thorough probe.

"It is not a personal affront... this is an affront to the constitutional position of the governor. If truth can be hidden from the governor, maybe this is only the tip of the iceberg. I will certainly explore it to the hilt and establish the truth," he stressed.

Bose noted that police had launched an inquiry, adding his report would capture "the point of view of the people who are affected".

Turmoil erupted at Salt Lake Stadium on Saturday as fans turned to vandalism after missing sights of Messi, citing severe mismanagement by organisers and VIP blockages of views.

Authorities detained chief organiser Satadru Datta, while Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee formed a high-level panel to investigate the episode.

Bose had previously branded the stadium fiasco a "dark day for the sports-loving people of Kolkata".

He instructed the state government to apprehend the event organiser, pinning full blame for the mayhem on them, and faulted the police for letting down the administration, citizens, and the chief minister.

A Lok Bhavan source revealed the governor's particular dismay upon hearing that the CM, set to greet Messi, had to retreat en route amid the pandemonium.

Bose called for an urgent probe, ticket refunds, payouts for stadium and public property harm, suspension of negligent police personnel, and creation of a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for major gatherings.

He further ordered charges of attempt to murder against the organiser and questioned how "Messi was made a commodity".
