West Bengal gears up for Phase 2 of Assembly elections with 41,001 polling stations, 2,400 CAPF companies, and tight security measures

Kolkata: With the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections scheduled for Wednesday, election officials have asserted that preparations are firmly in place, with extensive security and logistical arrangements completed across multiple districts.
Special Electoral Roll Observer Subrata Gupta said that the administration is fully geared up for the next round of voting.
“The final preparation is good. We are prepared to host phase two of the elections tomorrow in 41,001 polling stations across eight districts in South Bengal. Almost 2,400 companies of CAPF are being deployed to maintain peace and law and order and also to ensure the security of the voters...We are prepared for the worst. While we believe that the planning which has gone into phase two will bear fruit in the form of a peaceful second phase, we are prepared to face any law and order issue,” Gupta told
The second phase is a crucial segment of the ongoing election, which is being conducted in multiple stages to cover all 294 Assembly constituencies in the state.
High voter turnout expected
Encouraging public participation, Gupta appealed to voters to turn out in greater numbers and surpass the already high turnout recorded in the first phase.
“We would invite all voters to beat the figures already achieved in phase one, which is 93 % plus. We invite all voters in phase two to come and vote peacefully and without any fear...There have been six cases of deletions and 1,468 cases of addition in the roll. Those who have been included in this 1,468, they will be able to cast their vote in this phase,” he added.
The first phase of polling in the state saw a record turnout of over 93 percent, reflecting strong voter engagement despite isolated incidents.
Tight security measures implemented
Highlighting the security framework, Gupta noted that advanced monitoring systems and personnel deployment have been put in place to ensure a smooth voting process.
On security arrangements, he said some contingents will be equipped with body cameras, while all strong room complexes will be guarded by CAPF personnel as per defined security protocols. “CCTV cameras have been installed at the entry points of strong rooms, and the footage will be accessible to candidates and their agents,” he said.
He also confirmed that each polling booth will have a dedicated security presence. “Each polling booth will be manned by four security personnel. At least two webcams have been installed at every booth, one inside and one outside,” he added.
Across the state, large-scale deployment of central forces and police personnel has turned several constituencies into high-security zones to prevent any untoward incidents during polling.
Voter support systems and public response
Gupta further stated that voter enthusiasm remains high, with many residents keen to participate in the democratic process.
He also drew attention to grievance redressal mechanisms in place.
“Anyone can call and lodge a complaint. It will be recorded and entered into our system to ensure proper redressal,” he said, referring to the toll-free helpline number 18003450008.
Polling for the second phase is scheduled to take place from morning to evening hours, covering several key constituencies and forming a decisive part of the state’s electoral process.
