Election Commission launches WB-specific toll-free number and email for voters to report threats, intimidation and violence.

With the Assembly elections fast approaching, the Election Commission has introduced a dedicated toll-free helpline and email ID for voters in West Bengal to directly report threats, intimidation, and law-and-order issues.
The move comes amid growing concerns over electoral violence and aims to ensure a free, fair, and fear-free voting environment across the state.
According to the Commission, voters who face any form of coercion, be it threats, intimidation, or physical assault, can now immediately report such incidents through the newly launched toll-free number 1800-345-0008.
In addition, a dedicated email ID, wbfreeandfairpolls@gmail.com, has also been set up to allow citizens to file detailed complaints.
While the Election Commission already operates a national voter helpline number, 1950, officials clarified that this new initiative is specifically tailored for West Bengal in view of the upcoming polls.
The goal is to provide a faster, more accessible platform for voters in the state to raise urgent concerns without delay.
State Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Agarwal said the Commission has been receiving multiple complaints related to law-and-order disturbances as the election season intensifies.
“Elections are almost here, and complaints regarding law and order are increasing. That is why we have launched a separate toll-free number and email ID. Voters can report complaints at any time, and we will verify and take necessary action promptly,” he stated.
The Commission emphasized that any complaint, whether related to threats, violence, or disruption in polling areas, will be taken seriously and investigated.
Officials assured that swift action would follow after verification, reinforcing confidence among voters.
The initiative is being seen as a proactive step to curb electoral malpractices and ensure voter safety.
By offering direct communication channels, the Election Commission aims to empower citizens to speak up without fear and participate actively in the democratic process.
As political activity intensifies across West Bengal, authorities are urging voters to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or unlawful activity immediately.
The Commission’s message is clear: no voter should feel threatened or silenced during elections.
