Tehran/New Delhi: Iran has dismissed reports claiming that six Indian nationals were arrested by Iranian police during ongoing anti-government protests that have paralysed Tehran and several other cities.

The Iranian embassy in India termed the circulating reports false and urged the public to rely only on verified sources for updates on developments inside the country.

In a post on X, Iranian Ambassador to India Mohammad Fathali rejected the claims, saying: "The news circulated on some foreign X accounts about Iran's developments is totally false. I request all interested people to get their news from the reliable sources."

The clarification comes as Iran witnesses widespread protests against the Islamic regime led by Supreme Leader Seyyed Ali Hosseini Khamenei, driven largely by public anger over rising living costs and economic distress. Demonstrations have continued across major cities, with authorities deploying heavy security to curb unrest.

The denial from Tehran also follows heightened international attention on Iran after fresh remarks by US President Donald Trump, who claimed Iran’s leadership had reached out to Washington seeking negotiations.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said: “The leaders of Iran called… a meeting is being set up... They want to negotiate.” However, he added a warning: “We may have to act before a meeting.”

Trump’s comments come amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran, with the US president repeatedly threatening military action if Iran fails to curb its nuclear ambitions and regional activities. His remarks have further fuelled speculation over possible diplomatic backchannel talks even as protests intensify inside Iran.
